The following is a list Extra Services that can be accessed During a Boarding Period. Please note that these work best if they are applied over a longer boarding period than a shorter one or if they are repeated during multiple short boarding periods. If you would like your dog to learn to have better Door Manners, Be Patient during Feeding, Walk More Calmly on Leash or learn its Basic Obedience these services could be for you.
Please Note; If your dog has behaviour problems and you would like make use of these services, it would be best that an assessment is done prior to the boarding date. This is due to the other behaviour problems interfering with the new behaviours that your trying to instill in the dog. For more information on "Assessments," follow the link.
For your peace of mind we will video your dog and provide a before and after showing the improvement and the technique used. Explanation of any of these services and how to apply them at home is provided regardless of whether you purchase the service or not. Remember, however, that whilst boarding we have the time, situation, skill and experience to help you on your way to a better life with your dog.
Basic Obedience Sit, Down, Stand, Stay, Heel, Watch, Touch & Recall. These are the 8 basic exercises that will be taught to your dog during its boarding period. The exercises will be taught once per day, with the each training session lasting from 30 to 45 minutes. For the training to be worthwhile, it is best if done on a longer boarding period that allows the dog to have at least 6 training days. Although any amount of training days is beneficial, the more repetitions that the dog can be exposed to, the better the responses the dog will give.
Please note that unless the owner of the dog maintains the training program, the dogs correct responses will fade away. It is also to be noted that for the best results, the owner should engage in a private session or classes in order to learn how to correctly maintain the dogs training program.
The fee for Basic Obedience whilst boarding is $20 per day. A private session to be shown how to maintain the dogs training can be scheduled after the dog has calmed down from going home. The session is one hour and an obedience manual will be provided. The fee for the session is $50.
Doorway Manners Sit Before entering or exiting a doorway.
This service is relatively simple, it is repeated every time the dog leaves or enters its pen or the main building. Due to the frequency of the dogs being let out, which teaches the dog the behaviour quickly, and the ease of the exercise, the Fee is $2 per day. This exercise can be done on short stays as it has a high frequency per day, although best results come from longer a period.
Feeding Time Manners Before being given food the dog must lay or sit on its bed and not move until it is told to Release. This allows for the handler to place the food down without the dog getting in the way and making a mess. Please note that as the exercise can only be done twice a day, due to the average dogs feeding schedule, this service takes some time to teach. This exercise is not difficult, but the dog must already know how to Sit and or Lay Down in order for us to start.
This Fee is $2 per day. This service is best if applied during a longer boarding term, such as 5 days or more.
Calm Heeling During a leashed walk, if the dog puts tension on the leash the handler stops moving, remains motionless and does not make a sound. The handler stays like this until the dog returns to the handler and touches their left leg with its nose. At this point the handler continues on. Please note that there is more to this exercise, more than can be explained here. Please ask for further detail.
Note that this style of training a dog to heel and teaching it that self control leads to calmness, is very time consuming and can be frustrating for the handler if not trained properly. For this reason, ask us for details or a demonstration before trying by yourself. Due to the time each session takes, about 15 minutes, and that there are two sessions a day this service Fee is $10 per day. It is recommended that at least 5 days in a row are completed for the dog to become patterned into the exercise.

Being Calm This is for the dog to learn the benefit of being calm, and involves the dog being in an arousing situation, such as all the other dogs being let out into their runs, the other dogs being fed, or being free to wander the kennel whilst food is being prepared. While the dog is in one of those situations, nothing the dog wants to do will be done until it has calmed down and shown signs of giving up its attempts at forcing what it wants to happen.
This is quite a difficult one to teach as the dog has to come to the conclusion itself without any help from the handler. This exercise is done 2 times per day and can take quite a bit of time. The service Fee is $10 per day. It is recommended that it is done for at least 5 days in a row for the training to take affect on the average dog.
